Alternatives to Arden House

I suggest you try one of the B&Bs listed below.
This Google map will show you where most of these places are.

If you are here to visit the New Forest, may I suggest these seven friends who offer bed and breakfast:

The Mill House at Beaulieu run by Harriet & John Phipps on 01590 612347
Harriet and John are most friendly in their old tide mill over the Beaulieu River. Breakfast as part of the family. Bedrooms are old fashioned rather than Swedish chic

Ryehill Cottage near the National Motor Musueum, run by Jenny Graefe on 01590 612143
As you can see from her website, Jenny's home is a very smart thatched cottage, with even more beams, charming and suitable for leprachauns

Pepperbox House in Beaulieu High Street run by Jane Skinner on 01590 612728 or 07775 696918
Jane has her bijou house right in the middle of the High Street. Rather quaint, and you might be sharing a bathroom with others

Harlicks on the Brockenhurst Road, run by Evelyn Czilinsky on 01590 612740
Evelyn is friendly and talkative. She has a converted and refurbished a pair of cottages, looking out onto farmland

1 Northern Cottages run by Christine Hills on 01590 612127 or 07917 006470
Christine's house looks out onto the Beaulieu Millpond: so you have a friendly welcome, a glorious view and breakfast on the terrace if it's warm and sunny

A Little Gem in Lymington, run by Elaine Money on 01590 672 799
Elaine's small modern house is a mile from Lymington High Street. Elaine is a whimsical friend who has done a super job setting up as a B&B hostess

Walhampton Lodge Lymington is the home of Frances and Ian Brook who no longer run a B&B business; however, if you are stuck do try them. Email francesbrook@waitrose.com or phone either 01590 674117 or 077 1139 8337
Frances and Ian have a period house full of character and a huge garden with a startling variety of plantings; guests stay in a Victorian en suite double room

If you are aiming at Hythe or the Waterside, I suggest you try one these places:

The Maples Hotel in the centre of Hythe, run by our good friend Shirley Fiamingo on 023 8084 6723
The Maples is very close to shops and the ferry linking Hythe with Southampton: a small friendly guest house with a variety of rooms suitable for business people and families

The Boathouse on Hythe Marina Village. Ring Zsolt on 023 8084 4066
The Boathouse was completely refurbished and re-opened in 2011 under new management as a bar, restaurant and hotel with ten rooms. The Boathouse is well appointed but more expensive than anywhere else we recommend

Dale Farm House near Applemore. Ring Chris on 023 8084 9632
Dale Farm House is tucked away up a country lane on the other side of the main road just over two miles from Hythe village centre

Heatherdene. Phone Mike and Viv Hutchinson on 023 8084 6485
Heatherdene a family house in Dibden Purlieu, just under two miles from Hythe Ferry, so you have shops nearby and are closer to the Forest than to Hythe Centre

Ashdene Guest House. Phone Ian or Cathy Lee on 023 8084 6073
Ashdene, a former residential home with a few rooms, has been run as a B&B for ten years. Like Heatherdene it is in the centre of Dibden Purlieu, a mile from us in the direction of Beaulieu

The Four Seasons. Ring Trish or Tony on 023 8084 5151
Four Seasons at Netley View on the road to Fawley is just about two miles from Hythe centre but convenient for people here for work at the Fawley chemical works (one mile), refinery (two miles), or the generating station (four miles away)

Walcot Guest House. Ring Steve or Marie on 023 8089 1344
Walcot House is in Fawley (just over four miles from Hythe), so is the most convenient place to stay if you are here to visit the refinery, the chemical works or the generating station

The Birches. Ring Kathy Baker on 023 8084 8291 or 07774 545008
The Birches is a mile from Hythe village centre. Kathy specialises in taking contractors and others who want to stay for extended periods rather than just a night or two

Park House. Ring Andy on 023 8084 8540 or 07824 703380.
Park House is opposite the telephone exchange in New Road, Hythe. Andy offers room only terms (food not provided) for £22.50 a night, so this is suitable for chaps who want somewhere to kip and look after themselves
