Walking from the Royal Oak at Fritham
New Forest Walks
Here are two options, both taken from David Foster's excellent book 'Jarrold Short Walks: New Forest', ISBN 0-7117-2425-3, well worth buying for detailed descriptions and nature notes for forest walks from this and eighteen other starting points.

Option 1. Walk 19: Around the Islands. About three hours good walking: 5 miles.
Leave the Royal Oak [point 'C' on page 70] and walk down the tarmac road to the stream at the bottom of the hill near Eyeworth Pond. If you have children take some stale bread and feed the ducks: the usual mallard but you'll also see mandarin and one or two other varieties.

Then follow David's suggestions right round to point 'C' again, and take some well-earned refreshment.

Option 2. Walk 6: Fritham. About About an hour and a half: 2.5 miles.
David assumes you'll set off from the car park at Eyeworth pond, but you don't have to do that, especially if you're on a bike. So either follow his directions exactly or start from his point 'C' on page 26 and start by walking down the hill to Eyeworth Pond. In either case there's the chance to get the ducks on the pond excited with stale bread.
