Arriving by ferry
Hythe has its own small passenger ferry linking the village to Southampton. The ferry runs on the hour and the half hour, from quite early in the morning till 6:00pm on Sundays. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays the ferry continues till 7:30, and at the end of the week on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays till 11:00pm. To be certain, check with the Hythe Ferry website.
The ferry leaves from Town Quay, next to Red Funnel's Terminal 2 (which serves the Red Jet fast catamaran service for Cowes Isle of Wight). To reach Town Quay from the city centre or from the railway station, take the free City Link bus, which runs every fifteen minutes throughout most of the day. The City Link bus starts from Southampton Central station by the exit on platform 4 (where the fast trains from London generally stop). Walk out of the glass doors and turn left. The bus stop is not far along on the left.
On arrival at Hythe Pier, take the miniature train along the pier and follow the road through the shops, past the church and up the hill to the main Beaulieu road. On the right you'll find the Roman Catholic church, then Langdown Firs - a block of retirement flats - a pair of large Victorian villas, and soon afterwards in the trees a pair of small gateposts marked 18 Private leading to Arden House.
