The Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is full of interest, and relaxing too. This picture is of the great sweep of Compton Bay on the south west side of the Island, with the height of Tennyson Down behind Freshwater. The Needles (chalk rock pinnacles) guarding the western entrance to the Solent are just out of sight behind the far headland.

There are several ways to the Isle of Wight.

Just down the hill from Arden House is the Hythe Ferry, which takes you to Town Quay in Southampton; from there the Red Jet fast catamaran sails frequently to West Cowes.

Alternatively, by car you can drive to Southampton Royal Pier for the Red Funnel car ferry to East Cowes, or drive to Lymington for the WightLink car ferry to Yarmouth.

Either of these ferries takes foot passengers too.

Their websites give timetables.
