The New Forest

There is plenty to see and do in the New Forest. As well as particular visitor attractions there are opportunities for less formal enjoyment of the open country.

There are designated tracks and trails connecting the forest villages, and plenty of restaurants and pubs for eating and drinking. We can give you more advice when you arrive with us, or browse around on the website here.

One of the most enjoyable ways to discover the forest is to walk. I like to walk somewhere near a pub, and arrive in time for lunch. If that idea attracts you, then here are my suggestions:

  • Try the Shatterford walk near the Beaulieu Road Pub about four miles away. The photograph was taken at Shatterford.
  • Or follow the advice of Anne-Marie Edwards for a walk before lunch at the New Forest Inn.
  • Farther afield in the north of the Forest there are lovely walks near High Corner Inn.
  • There are similar opportunities near the Red Shoot Inn which has its own brewery!
  • A little nearer to home, there is a walk from the Green Dragon.
  • Tucked away in the middle of the forest are walks from the very popular Royal Oak at Fritham.
If you enjoy the New Forest and would like to make a small donation, say £1, to the New Forest Trust, under their visitor gift scheme, I'll be happy to pass it on for you!
