The south coast is bleesed with more sunshine than anywhere else in England. In the neighbourhood of Arden House we have many beaches, both on the mainland and on the Isle of Wight, where this picture was taken. Here are some places on the mainland, from west to east:

• Studland Bay and Swanage accessible by chain ferry from Sandbanks
• Bournemouth, the most popular sandy beach in the south
• Christchurch Bay and Highcliffe with a mixture (these days) of sand and shingle
• Milford on Sea, with a pebbly beach and good views of the Needles
• Lepe Country Park, or Calshot, on the north shore of the Solent

• Seaview near Ryde, with extensive sand at low water
• Alum Bay with its chair lift to the wild pebble beach and cliffs of coloured sand
• Totland Bay, sunny in the afternoon, with pier, sandy beach and calm sea

• Whitecliff Bay
• Yaverland (shown in the photograph) and Sandown
• Ventnor
