Things to do outdoors
The New Forest is especially rich in things to do in the outdoors, from the wild forest itself to the Solent shore.
Consider first the New Forest where wild deer roam, horses, cattle and pigs are pastured, birds and butterflies live in abundance. The Forestry Commission website will give you a feeling of the place. Beyond that, may I suggest you try this Activities website, or browse through my own outdoor suggestions by clicking on the buttons below for ideas about:
- the forest itself as a place for walking or relaxing,
- more energetic activities like cycling,
- the thrill of riding across terrain you'd probably not encounter on foot,
- fly or coarse fishing on rivers or lakes,
- sea fishing,
- golf on one of the many heathland or lush green courses,
- the seaside and sandy beaches,
- sailing and boating, or
- a day out on the Isle of Wight.
